Control Systems:
Control system is an arrangement of some devices and components that manages, commands, operates and regulates different machines for getting desired results. Following are the features of a control system:
- Accuracy
- Energy savings
- Safety
- Sensitivity
- Stability
- Speed
Working of control systems: Control systems work on the basis of some conditions designed in such a way that the task has to happen only when the condition is met. It can be designed in a variety of ways. Following are the most popular types of implementing control systems:
- Mechanical Control: A mechanical control is complete hardware kind of control. It is built up of certain machines that follow basic principles of mechanics. For ex. Levers, gears, shafts etc.
- Electronic Control: Electronic control works on the logic implemented by logic gates. Circuits are designed to form the condition based on which the control has to happen.
- Computer Control: Computer control works on the basis of computer programs that are written specially for some software activity to trigger.
- Pneumatic Control: Pneumatic control works on the basis of pressure that can be brought in by compressed air or liquid.
Types of control systems: Control systems are of following two types:
- Open-loop vs. Closed-loop control systems: The control systems that are just one way, are open loop control systems. In open-loop control systems, controls are implemented just to do the desired task. There is no any feedback if the task wasn’t performed.
Closed-loop controls have a feedback system that re-initiates the control if it did not work properly.
- Manual vs. Automatic Control: Manual control is the kind of control that is implemented by some kind of human efforts. It is usually of open-loop type.
Automatic control is implemented by some kind of computer-based activity. Automatic control brings automation to the IoT ecosystem.
