Transmission modes refer to the directions of transmission w.r.t. time. There are three different transmission modes used across networks:
In this mode, the communication is strictly unidirectional. The sender is always a sender whereas the receiver is always a receiver. This mode is seen in TV/Radio broadcasting systems where the transmitter always transmits and the receiver always receives.
In this mode, both stations can send and receive but one station can be in a role only at a specific time. In the other time slot, the roles can change. In one slot station A is sender, B is receiver. In the next slot, B will be sender and A will be receiver. This mode is seen in walkie-Talkie systems.
In this mode not even a difference of slot is there. Both the stations can send and receive in the same slot. Cellular Telephony can be the best example of it. Full Duplex is utilized in ethernet networks.
